Faithful Friends

One of the great tributes the Savior can give is to call us “friends.” We know that He loves with a perfect love all of His Heavenly Father’s children. Yet for those who have been faithful in their service with Him, He reserves this special title. You remember the words from the 84th section of the Doctrine and Covenants: “And again I say unto you, my friends, for from henceforth I shall call you friends, it is expedient that I give unto you this commandment, that ye become even as my friends in days when I was with them, traveling to preach the gospel in my power” (D&C 84:77). We become His friends as we serve others for Him. He is the perfect example of the kind of friend we are to become. He wants only what is best for His Heavenly Father’s children. Their happiness is His happiness. He feels their sorrow as His own because He has paid the price of all their sins, taken upon Himself all their infirmities, borne all their troubles, and felt all their longings. His motives are pure. He seeks no recognition for Himself but to give all glory to His Heavenly Father. The perfect friend, Jesus Christ, is completely selfless in offering happiness to others Pres. Sisters,

Looking for something fun to do over the long Holiday break? How about curling up with a good book and reading?!! Melissa Hall and Kristin Myres are starting up a book club for the New Year. Anyone interested is invited to attend!!

Our first meeting will be at Kristin's home on January 21st at 8:00 pm. We are going to try and meet on the third Thursday of the month. That gives all of us plenty of time to read the assigned book(s) before our first meeting.

We have chosen to read Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, a wonderful book to read during the Christmas season. And as we start the New Year with our minds focused on personal development we have chosen to read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey.

We would like to read a book from a Classics list at least once every other month and also delve into other book genres, that we might not be as familiar with--such as famous plays, speeches and other writings.

We would also like your input!! Please think about making a committment to read this New Year and come join us for some thoughtful discussion. You do not need to commit to coming every month, you are welcome to join us only on the months that work best for you. Send us an email or leave a comment and we will make sure to put you on the list of people interested in the most amazing Book Club yet! Thanks a bunch!!

Relief Society Lesson

Thank you to Sister Abbott for a wonderfully prepared lesson that was presented in Relief Society today. We spoke about the Temple, ways to prepare to attend the temple. I truly felt the spirit when everyone reverently listened to the lesson and participated with comments & testimonies. Sister Abbott also mentioned how several years ago she was challenged to write in the corner of her temple recommend how many times she planned to attend the temple that year. That is a fantastic challenge & I hope we all can attend the temple as often as we can. There is much work to do!

"Let us truly be a temple-attending and a temple-loving people. We should hasten to the temple as frequently, yet prudently, as our personal circumstances allow. We should go not only for our kindred but also for the personal blessing of temple worship, for the sanctity and safety that are within those hallowed and consecrated walls. As we attend the temple, we learn more richly and deeply the purpose of life and the significance of the atoning sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us make the temple, with temple worship and temple covenants and temple marriage, our ultimate earthly goal and the supreme mortal experience. As the prophets have said, the temple is a place of beauty; it is a place of revelation; it is a place of peace. It is the house of the Lord. It is holy unto the Lord. It must be holy and important to us." Howard W. Hunter, “A Temple-Motivated People,” Ensign, Feb 1995
